Mardi Gras is the first big party of the retail year, and the table linen that goes with it sells in a tight six-week window. Krewe balls, parade watch parties, school fundraisers and restaurant specials all run from early January through Fat Tuesday — and every one of them needs the same three colors: purple for justice, green for faith, gold for power.
For small retailers, event decorators and party rental shops, Mardi Gras linens are a high-turn seasonal category with almost no carryover risk: whatever does not sell by Fat Tuesday rolls straight into next January's shelf.
Why Mardi Gras Linens Sell Beyond New Orleans
The common mistake is treating Mardi Gras as a regional holiday. It is not:
| Buyer segment | Where | What they order |
|---|---|---|
| Restaurants and bars | Gulf Coast, but also any city with a parade or special | Wipe-clean PVC cloths for high-turn tables |
| Krewe and social clubs | LA, MS, AL, FL | Formal-look runners and cloths for ball dinners |
| Schools and PTAs | Nationwide (Mardi Gras fundraisers) | Budget cloths in the three colors |
| Party rental companies | Metro areas nationwide | Durable, washable, re-rentable sets |
| Home hosts | Nationwide | One statement cloth plus beads-and-mask centerpieces |
Because the palette is fixed, you do not need deep assortment — you need the right three colors in the right sizes, in stock, by November.
The Core SKU List
A working Mardi Gras linen set covers four items:
- Rectangular tablecloths — 60x102 in for 6-ft tables and 60x120 in for 8-ft banquet tables are the two volume sizes. See our rectangle tablecloth size chart for drop-length math.
- Round tablecloths — 90 in and 108 in for 60-in and 72-in rounds; ball venues use rounds almost exclusively. Our round sizing guide walks through the drop calculation.
- Table runners — a purple or gold runner over a neutral base cloth is the decorator trick that doubles perceived value without doubling linen cost.
- Napkins — sold in packs; gold and purple alternate on place settings.
Fabric Choice: PVC vs Faux Cotton-Linen
Mardi Gras splits into two demand profiles:
- Parade watch parties and casual restaurant service: waterproof, wipe-clean PVC is the right call. Beads, drinks and glitter all wipe off. Our pvc waterproof oilproof tablecloth is the workhorse SKU — the full buying criteria are in our waterproof tablecloths guide.
- Krewe balls and formal dinners: the heavier faux cotton-linen look wins. The thickened faux cotton-linen tablecloth gives the fabric drape formal rooms expect while still wiping clean. Weight classes are explained in our tablecloth GSM guide.
Timing: The November Deadline
Mardi Gras floats on the calendar (Fat Tuesday is 47 days before Easter — February 17 in 2026, February 9 in 2027), but the ordering math does not:
- Order by mid-November to have goods on the shelf the first week of January.
- Ocean DDP for a first order runs 30-40 days; air express 7-12 days. The cost gap is in our DDP vs FOB comparison.
- Rental companies should order double: Mardi Gras linen re-rents through the spring festival season.
Pricing and Bundling
Mardi Gras buyers respond to bundles more than discounts: cloth + runner + napkin pack at a set price outperforms the same items sold individually. Run the margin math with our wholesale pricing guide, and stack the bundle against mask and bead accessories — our masquerade mask ordering guide covers the same buyer.
Start Small, Reorder Hot
Valvive supplies Mardi Gras linens from a 3-piece minimum per style, mix-and-match across colors and sizes in one consolidated order, with DDP shipping to the US and quotes returned in 1-2 days. Test purple, green and gold in two sizes each; reorder the color that moves before the parade season peaks.
